Student Champion Talgat Orynbasar

Talgat Orynbasar, a student of the Peoples’ Friendship University named after Academician А. Куатбекова, won a bronze medal at the junior world championships in Tajikistan in the under-60-kilogram category. The Kazakhstani athlete proved stronger than his opponent from Azerbaijan. The judoka won World Championship bronze for the second consecutive time. Given the calibre of his opponent, it was a minor sensation. The decisive bout against Azerbaijan’s Низами Имранова ended with an unexpected ippon in golden score, although his opponent — who arrived in Tajikistan as European champion and the previous year’s World Championship finalist — had taken the initiative throughout. Our athlete held firm. This was Kazakhstan’s first medal at the tournament.

The year 2 student champion studies at the «Physical Education and Sport» Faculty of the Peoples’ Friendship University. This is not Talgat Orynbasar’s first success at world level: he won World Junior Championship bronze in 2022 and another junior world bronze in 2023.
