Theologians Met Young People to Discuss “The Core Values of Religion and Preventing Religious Extremism”

Religious extremism has become a pressing and difficult problem worldwide. Stirring up conflict between nations and religions under the guise of religion can lead to serious confrontations. Young people who misunderstand the foundations of Islam, in particular, may fall under the influence of harmful movements and be led astray.

To prevent such problems and provide guidance to young people, today, in 2024, on 13 September, the Peoples’ Friendship University named after Academician Ә. Қуатбеков held a student meeting on “The Core Values of Religion and Preventing Religious Extremism”. Participants included Head of the Public Harmony Division of Shymkent’s Department of Internal Policy and Youth Affairs Abdikarim Nurzhan Кеңесұлы, Head of the Organisation and Coordination of Outreach Work Division Tillabek Sayan Аднабекұлы, Vice-Rector for Educational and Social Affairs at the Peoples’ Friendship University named after Academician Ә. Қуатбеков, Садықов Бердіқұл Қадырқұлұлы, and students.
The theologians said that extremism poses a serious threat to state integrity, national security and citizens’ rights and freedoms. They described religious extremism as manifesting through the dissemination of leaflets and extremist literature, active missionary work, and recruitment of young people studying at universities in Muslim countries. They explained the need to hold meetings of this kind more frequently to help prevent these problems among the younger generation.
During the meeting, students asked the specialists questions about contentious religious issues and received timely answers.
