“The Tenge — a Symbol of Independence”: Closing Celebration of Economics Department Week

The celebration opened with a welcoming address by the university’s First Vice-Rector, Candidate of Economic Sciences and Senior Lecturer Бердибекова Гульмира Сұлтанбекова. Departmental Professor Туртаев Мутал Расулович spoke about the history of Kazakhstan’s national currency — the tenge. In 1993, on 15 November, the country took control of its own monetary affairs and introduced the national currency. One of the main reasons was the breakdown of shared financial ties among former Soviet republics, which had further complicated the country’s economic situation.
