Shymkent’s Young People Discuss Nuclear Power Plant Construction in Kazakhstan

Leaders of Shymkent’s Youth Resource Centre joined first-year students of the Peoples’ Friendship University named after Academician А. Куатбекова to discuss key topics in the President’s Address to the People of Kazakhstan. The main topic was nuclear power plant construction in Kazakhstan. Energy specialists and experts explained the contribution of nuclear power to energy security and its environmental and economic advantages for the country.
The organisers emphasised that building a nuclear power plant would create major opportunities, especially for young people. Tens of thousands of new highly skilled jobs with decent salaries would be created. Kazakhstan’s university graduates have what they need to participate in construction and work in the domestic nuclear industry. A corresponding state programme for nuclear energy development will be prepared, with particular attention to specialised personnel training that meets the plant’s needs.
President Kassym-Жомарт Токаев of the Republic of Kazakhstan scheduled the nuclear power plant referendum for 6 October 2024 and signed a decree on holding it.
