Preventing Influenza and Coronavirus Infection

Students of the Peoples’ Friendship University named after А. Куатбекова took part in a discussion on preventive measures against seasonal coronavirus infections (COVID-19) and influenza, including acute respiratory viral infections and acute respiratory diseases. The importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the dangers of influenza and its symptoms were explained by university nurse К. Эсмурзаева and Vice-Rector for Educational and Social Work Б.К. Садыков.
«Influenza — is a severe viral infection affecting people regardless of sex or age. The main preventive method is vaccination, in which a component of the infectious agent is introduced into the body. The virus contained in the vaccine stimulates the production of antibodies that prevent viruses from multiplying and infecting cells. This makes it possible to prevent the disease before it begins», the nurse explained.
In most cases, influenza and acute respiratory viral infections spread through airborne droplets. However, many people do not realise that viruses can also survive for several hours on surrounding objects and surfaces. Doctors therefore recommend keeping the home clean and practising personal hygiene during a flu epidemic to prevent infection.

Important! As a preventive measure, humidify the air in rooms where you spend long periods, including your home. Dry air damages the nasal mucosa, preventing it from performing its protective functions. Ventilate rooms regularly. Viruses multiply particularly quickly in warm, dry air. Ventilation helps reduce their concentration: for 10-15 minutes every 1-2 hours, open a window and leave the room, specialists advise.
